About me

About me
In front of Göteborgs Konsthall on a very cold day in November

Hi, my name is Ash. I am an advisor, strategist and facilitator.

I’ve been working on digital stuff in and around the cultural sector for almost 20 years.

I think that this stuff is interesting, exciting, and important.

"If I have a question or a problem to solve in the digital sphere Ash is a valued first contact who I know will listen, advise and help make further connections."

Northern Ballet - Executive Director

My background

For nearly two decades I have helped cultural organisations sharpen their digital thinking and activity.

Over that time I have worked on hundreds of projects ranging from training and consultancy through to complex web builds, design initiatives, new product development, and R&D.

In 2017 I started Digital Works which is a programme of content and events focused on digital stuff in the cultural sector. As part of this, I host the Digital Works Podcast and programme the Digital Works Conference.

I have worked in-house, at an agency, and as a freelancer.

I was a director at Substrakt, a digital agency working in the cultural sector with clients like the National Theatre, Folger Shakespeare Library, Southbank Centre, Sadler’s Wells, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and many others.

I served as a trustee on the boards of Northern Stage and the Directors Charitable Foundation, in the UK.

I spend quite a bit of my life running, cycling, and generally spending time outdoors.

I’m based in Göteborg, Sweden.

"Ash is that rare breed of expert operator: someone who combines empathy and emotional intelligence with acute operational experience and technical expertise. His leadership and dedication to solving systemic challenges in the arts and cultural sector is inspiring. He's also a joy to work with!"
